Senior Program Advisor
Richard Hughes is a Senior Program Advisor at Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University affiliate working to improve the health of women and their families around the world. He has over 30 years’ experience working in public health, education and conservation in some of the world’s poorest countries. His work is rooted in direct personal experience and understanding of life in poor rural communities and his work with governments, national and multinational partners, and civil society organizations. This experience is complemented by decades influencing national and international policies, mobilizing local communities and influencing individual practices, and delivering programs to drive change at scale. On top of nearly 20 years at Jhpiego, working across Asia and Africa, Hughes spent several years leading the Madagascar and Western Indian Ocean regional program for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). He holds degrees in Biology (AB), International Relations/International Development (MA), and Environmental Science & Policy (MSc).
