Lily Riahi heads the UN SEforALL District Energy in Cities Initiative at UN Environment, a public-private partnership of 43 organizations that support local and national governments to scale up investment in modern district energy systems and accelerate their transition to lower-carbon and climate resilient societies. Riahi has a consolidated career in sustainable energy, resource mobilization, and private sector engagement. Over the last 15 years, she has managed and implemented energy efficiency and renewable energy programmes and projects for the Global Environment Facility, UN Environment, REN21, the Environmental Defense Fund, ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, and the German parliament where she participated in the set-up and promotion of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). She is also report author of several energy publications, including ‘District Energy in Cities: Unlocking the Potential of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy,” a UNEP flagship publication.
