Anya Cherneff is Founder and Executive Director of Empower Generation, a social enterprise that trains and supports rural women to lead inclusive businesses that deliver clean energy solutions to remote communities in Nepal. After fighting human trafficking for over five years, Cherneff tried a market-based approach to reducing inequalities and creating pathways for equitable work and economic development. To date, she has overseen recruitment, training and business incubation for over 300 rural entrepreneurs who have collectively distributed 60,000 life-improving products to more than 300,000 people in Nepal. Cherneff is an alumna of the Miller Center Social Entrepreneur Fellowship Program, TEDx Zurich Speaker, C3E Women in Energy International Leadership Awardee, a SOCAP Social Entrepreneur Fellow, and most recently, winner of the Ashden International Award in the Clean Energy for Women and Girls Category. She holds a MA in International Human Rights from the University of Denver and a BA in Anthropology from Columbia University.
