Driving Industrial Energy Efficiency through National Efforts

Thursday, May 3rd: 14:30 - 16:00 - Plenary

HOST: United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Carbon Trust

Industry accounts for 37 percent of global Total Final Energy Consumption, and one third of global green house gas emissions. However, 60 percent of the energy efficiency potential identified by the IEA remains unexploited. The Global Industrial Energy Accelerator, convened by UNIDO and the Carbon Trust seeks to close this gap by engaging with up to 15 countries over the next 8 years to identify key actions and create programs to unlock the full potential of industrial energy efficiency.

This session will explore the results of preliminary diagnostics undertaken for the first pilot countries joining the accelerator. Representatives from the Ministries of Energy/Energy agencies from Brazil, Mexico, Morocco and China will discuss the key challenges preventing the implementation of industrial energy efficiency measures within their countries. Representatives will also highlight what actions and solutions they will prioritize to address these challenges and achieve the desired level of industrial decarbonization through improved energy efficiency.
