Governments in Africa, Asia and Latin America recognize the need to move away from traditional biomass and to massively scale up adoption of low carbon and clean fuels to support the clean cooking goal of SDG7. Some have specifically cited clean fuels within their NDC targets and many are already leading national initiatives for clean fuels across urban, peri-urban and rural areas. Yet financing remains lagging and a full ecosystem approach that looks at national transition and targeted cross-cutting approaches has been largely ignored.
This multi-stakeholder, interactive session focuses on addressing the massive transition towards the sustained adoption of affordable, healthier and more environmentally friendly cooking fuels in a collective "push" towards reaching SDG7 by 2030.
Breakout discussion groups will explore five facets of cooking fuels: policy; market assessment/pathways; investment, innovations; and consumer, community and national case studies/models. They will identify focus areas for support still needed at international and national levels to catalyze safe, effective models of what sustainable cooking looks like. Pathways that leave no one behind will be examined.
