This session will explore ways to improve energy systems planning in developing countries. The session will be part of an ongoing process that began with a Roundtable Discussion hosted by DFID on the side of the ESMAP Knowledge Exchange Forum in London November 2017. The previous Roundtable Discussion resulted in a set of draft principles for donor support for energy planning. The Lisbon session will expand participation to include many of the technical institutions that provide energy planning tools and services. The aim will be to build on the agreed principles to explore how they can be incorporated into our working practices, and identify actions that need to be taken to facilitate a more coordinated, transparent and locally-owned and managed approach to planning. Solutions to be discussed include provision of better platforms for coordinating support, sharing of data, tools and software, and improving the way countries are supported to build their capacity and expertise in this area.
